Licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to building design drafting in some states. Relevant state and territory regulatory authorities should be consulted to confirm these requirements.
This course provides fundamental skills that offers the student many opportunities on its own. However, for those wishing to further their studies they can use this course as a stepping stone into architecture, building design, town planning, project management or interior design.
Upon successful completion of 10 units of competency, students will be issued a CPP40121 Certificate IV in Residential Drafting. Where a student withdraws prior to the completion of the certificate they will be issued a Statement of Attainment for all units that they have successfully completed if all due fees have been paid

• CPPBDN4101 Work effectively in a building design environment
• CPPBDN4102 Analyse building design drawings
• CPPBDN4103 Use CAD software to produce drawings for building design projects
• CPPBDN4104 Apply compliance requirements to Class 1 and 10 building design documentation
• CPPBDN4105 Prepare drawings for planning and building approval for Class 1 and 10 buildings
• CPPBDN4106 Investigate materials for construction of Class 1 and 10 buildings
• CPPBDN4107 Investigate construction methods for Class 1 and 10 buildings
• CPPBDN4110 Set up BIM capable software and files for building design drafting projects
• CPPBDN5101 Produce digital 3-D models of building designs
• CPPBDN4109 Research architectural styles and movements
This course is for anyone interested in having a better understanding of the building processes and technologies applied to architecture and building design.
Students wishing to enrol in the CPP40121 Certificate IV in Residential Drafting will require that students have year 10 or its equivalent, in English and Maths OR equivalent. If they have neither they will be required to complete an LLN Assessment
The course is conducted over 9 months (full time) / 1.5 years (part time).
Over the duration of the course it is expected that students will need to complete a minimum load of 750 hours this includes formal work such as reading, and assessments as well as self guided research (20 hours per week recommended to complete course in 9 months)
