An introduction to Specification Writing

Developed by industry expert, registered architect Alex Chistiakoff in association with BFDA, this course is designed to provide an introduction to:

  • The purpose of specifications
  • How specifications are applied
  • The structure of a specification
  • How to write a specification using a NATSPEC template

This course has been designed for students to attain competency in the unit CPCCBC4015 – Prepare specifications for all construction works (Release 1).

This unit is also a core unit in the nationally accredited qualification CPP50921 Diploma of Building Design

The unit is appropriate for Building Design Professionals who wish to develop their familiarity and expertise with the development of effective specifications.

Entry to the course is at the discretion of the school.

Design Elements and Principles in Building Design

Design Elements and Principles in Building Design

You will learn about the basic elements of design and principles of composition and how they can guide the design of building facades.

Course Aims

The aim of this course is to:

  • To understand what we classify ‘the elements of design’
  • To look at examples of the elements of design in nature and our built environment
  • To understand what we classify as the ‘principles of composition’
  • To look at examples in nature and our built environment of how the elements of design are utilised in the principles of composition
  • To explore the elements and principles in practical exercises.

Course Outcomes

At the end of this course you will have learnt:

  • How to identify the elements of design
  • How to undertake an analysis of images to identify how the elements of design have been utilised in the principles of composition
